Step 1. Assemble job information
The following data must be in hand prior to proceeding with the other four steps: Conveyor Design Data:
  1. Description of conveyor function and the various other equipment in the system such as washers, degreasers, spray booths, ovens, etc.
  2. Size and weight of product or products to be transported. It is desirable to obtain exact product weights rather than customer estimates.
  3. Number of products per hour to be placed on the conveyor.
  4. How is product carried?
  5. Is it intended to carry more than one part or product per carrier?
  6. What are the temperatures the conveyor must accommodate?
  7. Is conveyor to be subjected to contamination by acids, powder coating, Flo-cote paint, abrasive dust, etc?
  8. Electrical characteristics? 230 volt, 50/60 cycle, single phase, current is standard with variable speed controls.
  9. Are explosive proof motors required?
  10. Is drawing of proposed system available?
  11. Are building drawings available?
  12. If items indicated in #10 and #11 are not obtainable, a sketch must be made at the site. This is to include column centers, height to steel, size and location of steel of support of the conveyor, location of conveyor in relation to the building, loading points, unloading points, locations of related equipment such as washers, ovens, spray booths, etc.
Quotation Data:
  1. Is a firm or budget price required?
  2. How soon must quotation be presented?
  3. What are delivery requirements?
  4. Method of delivery: Air Freight? Motor Freight? Rail Freight? Customer pick up?
  5. Is shipment to be prepaid and invoiced or shipped freight collect?
  6. Are motor starters and push buttons to be included? If so, will a sample carrier or product rack be required for approval?
  7. If field wiring to be quoted?
  8. Is field air piping to be quoted? (Required if mist oilers are used).
  9. Is field erection including supporting steel and conveyor guarding, to be quoted?
  10. If field erection is to be quoted, will welding of supports to building steel be permitted or must clamps be used?
  11. Will owner clear the area except for fixed items such as machinery, etc.?
